CIS Risk Management Trainings

15-Passenger Van Safe Driving

Length: 1 hr.
Participants will learn about the common hazards associated with 15-Passenger Vans, safety issues, weight and passenger limitations, vehicle inspections, use of mirrors, following distances, seat belt use, van speed limits, driver age limits, roof racks, loads, trailer hitches, and much more with respect to the safe operation of a vehicle. Course is specifically designed for operators of 15-Passenger Vans, smaller sized vans carrying passengers, small bus transit operators and cargo van operators. Would also welcome risk managers, loss control officers, safety committee members, department heads, and supervisors of operators.

Accident Investigations Techniques

Length: 1 hr.
Workplace accidents occur each and every day. Accident investigations determine how and why accidents, incidences or near misses occur. By using the information gained through an investigation, a similar or even a more disastrous accident may be prevented.

Basic Office Ergonomics

Length: 60-90 min.
This is a 60-90 minute power point training designed to review the best practices in office ergonomics and learn how to recognize and problem-solve common office workstation risk factors.

Blood borne Pathogens

Length: 45 minutes
OR-OSHA requires annual training for employees where it has been determined that they face a potential health risk as a result of occupational exposure to blood and OPIM (Other Potentially Infectious Material). This exposure can be minimized or eliminated by implementing an Exposure Control Program to manage the use of a combination of engineering and work practice controls, personal protective clothing and equipment, training, medical surveillance, Hepatitis B vaccination, signs and labels, and other provisions. This training will help entities meet their training requirements for covering the above information, as required under OR-OSHA (OAR 437, Division 2/Z) Blood borne Pathogens Rules.

Driven to Distraction

Length: 2 hrs.
In this program you will learn, see and discuss: general statistics that demonstrate the extent, costs, and causes of motor vehicle crashes and the significance to your organization, how a vehicle and equipment contributes to crashes or adds to the injuries in a crash and the driver's control over conditions which include; aggression, stress, speeding, impacts of speed and other distractions. Course participants will also discuss tips to safer backing, defensive driving, understanding weather and road conditions that affect driving safely and how a driver can compensate for external conditions and environmental hazards while driving.

Effectively Handling Multiple Distractions, A Law Enforcement Safe Driving Program

Length: 2 hrs.
This course provides general statistics that demonstrate the extend, costs, and causes of motor vehicle crashes and the significance to your organization. Hazard Identification in the Workplace

Length: 2 hrs.
Hazard Identification in the Workplace: This course delivers over 250 actual and illustrative photos of hazards, identifiers, potential problem areas etc. in the workplace to engage and train participants what and how to look for things during their required walk around quarterly inspections of their facilities and plants. Many OR-OSHA rules and regulations are discussed pertaining to the photos. Much like a “What’s Wrong With This Photo?” type of class.

Health Safety Training

Length: 1 hr.
Are you interested in learning some new “working comfortably” tips that will help you feel better during your work day, and also help you avoid soft tissue injuries? Office ergonomic discomforts affect both an employer’s and employee’s pocketbook. The good news is there are lots of simple but effective changes and improvements employees and employers can make to minimize risks of computer and office related discomfort or injuries. This practical interactive 2-hour training session will provide you with information about how to improve the ergonomics and comfort at your office workstation. The first hour (11 a.m. to Noon) will focus on classroom training on various modifications that can be made to improve the ergonomics at your workstation. The second hour (1 p.m. to 2 p.m.) will include hands on ergonomic assessments where you will have a chance to apply what you learned in part one of the class.

How to Conduct a Background Investigation

Length: 1 hr.
This course will explain how to conduct the background process.

How to Evaluate a Police Chief and a Police Department

Length: 2 hrs.
This course explains manners in which to evaluate Chief's of Police and police departments.

Ladder Safety

Length: 1 hr.
This course cover the basic safety rules for use of step ladders, extension ladders, different types of ladders, inspection procedures, loading, transporting, storage, unsafe acts, and utilized many photos to illustrate many of the dos and don’ts in ladder safety.

Lexipol/Accreditation

Length: 1 hr.
This course explains the benefits of Lexipol and Accreditation

Liability of Vehicle Pursuits

Length: 1 hr.
This course review the legal standard for vehicle pursuits and historic case law regarding pursuits as while as the civil liabilities related to pursuits

Material Safety Data Sheets

Length: 30 mines.
This course takes participants through the basic rules of the Hazard Communication (HazCom) Program and highlights the Material Data Safety Sheets and their importance to employees. This course also covers the "Right To Know" law for all employees and explains how to read and interpret the MSDS.

Office Ergo Responder

Length: 3-4 hrs. Could be minimized to 2 hrs.
This training module will equip "ergo responders" to be the first line of defense for preventive office ergonomics. Learn how to do simple office assessments for new hires, and/or to encourage early symptom reporting and ergonomic problem solving to prevent minor tissue irritations from becoming workers' comp reported injuries.

OSHA training for law enforcement

Length: 1 hr.
Train the trainer in law enforcement requirements for OSHA. This class is focused on Field Training Officers or risk managers for law enforcement.

Performance Management

Length: 2 hrs.
This is a two hour session, designed to give anyone with management or supervisory responsibility the tools they need to effectively and efficiently manage day-to day performance of staff, and turn that information into an effective performance evaluation. The session begins with a brief discussion of the hurdles managers and supervisors encounter when trying to meet their performance management responsibilities. The potential benefits of proper day-to-day management of staff is also discussed. Attendees will then watch a 35 minute DVD illustrating the nine most common mistakes supervisors make when dealing with employees.

PPE

Length: 1 hr.
This course covers the Oregon OSHA rules, requirements, training, documentation, recordkeeping, and differences between various types of PPE required, and employer/employee responsibilities. Explicit photos of mishaps to employees failing to use the property PPE or failing to use PPE as required will be shown in this training.

Proper use of 911

Length: 1 hr.
How and when to use 911 for employees when dealing with emergency in the work place.

Risk Management for Law Enforcement

Length: 3 hrs.
This course explains risk management issues for law enforcement executives and ways to reduce worker injuries and claims.

Risk Management Techniques to Manage, Maintain & Respond to Sewer Backups

Length: 3 hrs.
This workshop will address basic component parts to an effective sewer maintenance program designed to enable your employees to systematically address aging sewer systems, respond to routine maintenance, establish mapping and historical databases and create improvement and replacement programs, and why it is important to set up reporting and documentation methods. The course also covers various aspects of liability exposures and discusses court requirements to lessen or eliminate liability exposures.

RTW: Partnering for Success

Length: 60-90 min.
This is a 60-90 minute power point training designed to give managers and supervisors information, strategies and resources to successfully manage disability in occupational claims for a win-win outcome. It identifies the key components of return to work programs, policy and strategy along with internal and external resources.

Safety Committee

Length: 5 hrs.
This course enables the employer to be in compliance with the rules, established by OR-OSHA, for safety committee members. Water and Wastewater Plant employees may apply the course hours to help meet their requirements for maintaining their annual licenses and certifications. New Safety committee members (specifically those that have not received the required training in hazard identification, safety committee operations and accident investigation), current members in need of a review, supervisors, safety managers, HR managers, agents of record, water & wastewater employees as well as city officials are encouraged to attend

Sexual and Race Harassment in the Government Workplace

Length: 2 hrs.
Sexual and racial harassment claims can arise from something as simple as a misunderstanding, or as complex as a workplace power-struggle. Regardless of the cause, knowing the law and learning a few guidelines can keep employees from unwittingly causing sexual harassment claims, as well as aid victims in protecting themselves, their co-workers, and the City itself. In this course, attendees will learn the actions that most often cause sexual harassment claims, what must happen before someone can file a sexual harassment lawsuit, and what responsibilities the City, its supervisors and employees have in preventing and responding to sexual harassment claims. NOTE: This course can be taught by Kirk or by your RMC who will play a DVD of Kirk and then go over the course outline.

This course explores the "cyber" world and how employee/employer problems can develop as the result of posting activities or statements on the Internet. How what is done in your personal life can affect your profession and your career. Winter Driving--When Good Weather Goes Bad

Length: 1 1/2 hrs.
This program respects the fact you have basic driving skills and ability. Its curriculum helps drivers to consider what can be done to become an even better, safer driver, and to recognize and deal with constant distractions while driving.

Workers Compensation 101

Length: 2 hrs.
This course is an overview of the Oregon workers' compensation, OSHA requirements and risk management basics, claims and disability management techniques and resources. This course is taught in three 45 minutes modules, module one is workers compensation in Oregon. Module two is claims management techniques. Module three is disability management.

Workplace Privacy

Length: 1 hr.
This course will explain the privacy issues between the employee and employer when it comes to privacy in the workplace, focusing on electronic media and cell phones. NOTE: This course can be taught by Kirk or by your RMC who will play a DVD of Kirk and then go over the course outline.

Workplace Violence

Length: 2 hrs.
This course is about the signs and ways to prevent work place violence.
